- Bacteriostatic water is purified water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The preservative inhibits bacterial growth in an opened vial, which is why it is used to reconstitute lyophilized peptides for research use. No certificate of analysis is published for this diluent, so no sterility or preservative-concentration result is claimed here.
- How much bacteriostatic water do I need?
- The amount depends on your desired concentration. A common reconstitution is 2mL per 10mg of peptide, yielding 5mg/mL. Our 30mL vials can reconstitute many peptide vials before they run out.
- How long does reconstituted peptide last?
- Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as an antimicrobial preservative, which is why it is used for vials drawn from more than once. It does not slow chemical degradation of a dissolved peptide, and we have not performed product-specific stability studies, so no fixed shelf life is claimed for reconstituted solutions: keep them refrigerated at 2–8°C, protected from light, and use them promptly.
